Rick Prater and the
Midnight Travelers
Rick Prater shares a cultural heritage with many of the top names in Bluegrass
music. A native son of Knott County Kentucky, Rick has absorbed the
sounds of his home and combines this with original musical ideas to form a
unique traditional sound. Having played Bluegrass the biggest part of his life,
and honing the craft with several local and regional groups in Southeastern
Kentucky, led to Rick being a member of several professional Bluegrass
bands including: Larry Sparks & The Lonesome Ramblers (two-time winner
of the coveted International Bluegrass Music Association’s Male Vocalist of
the Year Award); Dave Evans & River Bend; Sam Wilson & The Bluegrass
Colonels; and Vince Combs & The Shade Tree Grass.
He appeared on Sparks’ 1999 VHS video tape released by Rebel
Records to critical acclaim.
One of the great soul singers in Bluegrass today,
Rick lives every word while singing a song, often keeping the audience
on the edge of their seats, delivering the lyrics in his own characteristic way.
His strong rhythm guitar, as well as an occasional
lead, is the perfect compliment to Rick’s vocal style and
forms the foundation of
Rick Prater & The Midnight Travelers sound.
